Lauren Kimmorley is a Meanjin/Brisbane based paint artist working in oil and acrylic. Kimmorley carries a deep awareness of how place shapes us. Her process begins by moving through suburban streets, capturing the everyday of people moving through spaces. Back in her studio, Kimmorley returns to these captured moments in paint, building textured, perspective-driven works that transforms these familiar suburban scenes into memory-filled reflections on place, nostalgia, and shared experience. “I'm interested in the quiet significance of everyday movement, moments, the landmarks, the kinds of places that hold personal memory and significance to people. I want my work to render a scene as both documentary and felt.” Through thick, expressive surfaces and a push-pull between realism and dreamlike distortion, Kimmorley invites viewers to look again at the familiar, and to find their own history embedded in it.
